I got a little time, and a brain full of classic car knowledge.

How did you afford that?

my 68 was my first car, my grandpa wanted to do a project together and asked what I liked (I was 7-8 years old) I like camaros, wasn't picky on the year. Found mine in the paper running but that's about it. Spent the next 7 years restoring ourselves doing pretty much everything.
I would then basically work for my grandpa during the summers off school. He did a little land development on property he owned and I would work everyday on that doing what I could.

A SBC question. I just got my '71 running again after it sitting for a long time but I found coolant on the ground in the area of the transmission. There is no leakage around the heater hoses or any other obvious spots. What are the more likely causes? I'm thinking either a block plug or **shudder** a cracked block. What do you think?

have you checked around where the head meets the block? Could be a bad head gasket, I've never had a freeze plug leak but not out of the realm of possibility. If you can't find any trace of the leak that you can follow to the source than a cracked block could be possible.
Has the motor sat in freezing temps with water in it or has it overheated big time? That would to a cracked block

So, I'm going to have to put my '68 Camaro into storage for winter (November-ish - March-ish) What & where do I have to plug up to keep critters out of it? And what's that cylindrical metal knob on the floor in the driver's footwell for?

the knob on the floor next to the parking brake is your dimmer switch to go from low and high beams.
Where are you storing it (garage, barn etc...) and what are the conditions?

which new Camaro would you get and why, SS LE1, ZL1, or Z28

if I had to buy a new camaro,( which I honestly wouldn't after driving one and riding in a couple) would probably a 1LE SS. I love what the Z28 is but I couldn't hoon like its intended to because I see the value down the line of a low miler that still has the plastic in the seats.
But the 1LE I can see myself enjoying and modifying with things like heads and cam swaps etc. plus its a more attainable track car that I wouldn't feel as bad for pushing it to its limits.

I thought briefly about the head gasket but had forgotten about it, thanks for the reminder. It has never overheated but it has been sitting out where it got very cold. It shouldn't have had any coolant in it and what could have been left should have had antifreeze in it, but it's possible. That's my worst case scenario.

If it got very cold and your coolant was not up to snuff you could have popped a freeze (welch) plug.

That's what I'm hoping for. Either that or a pipe plug in the head is leaking. It's not optimum but it's better than a cracked block.

Hi/Low beam control, thanks. I forgot that's how they did it. I think my Dad's 80's Chevy pickup even did it that way. Camaro will be stored in locked a 10x20 public storage facility. Since its not a barn, I'm not too worried about critters, but this thing seems way less airtight than modern cars, and you never know...

If the space is not climate controlled then I would get something to keeps moisture from forming, if your worried about critters set traps around the tires, roll the windows up and cover with a soft car cover, if the building sweats than a tarp on top of the car cover will keep the cover dry. Never put a tarp on top of paint!
If you have power then a battery tender is a wise investment. If not, unhook the battery. Then you can put a stabilizer in the gas tank but I haven't had the best experience with those products on my 68.
